DRISCOLL'S BOAT YARD STAR
OF REALITY TV SHOW
SAN
DIEGO, CA – July 19, 2010 – What does Driscoll Boat works, a production
company from Arizona and national television exposure for Driscoll and San
Diego have in common? A new reality show about boats and the people who work
on them!
The Arizona production company Creative Illusions Productions, and its
producer and director, John S. James, has won numerous awards, most recently
an Emmy for his work in Beijing assisting NBC in its coverage of the Olympic
Games. Mr. James has also won two Telly awards for work in music videos and
documentary.
"I love boating and the people who love boats," said Mr. James. "The idea of
showing the excellent work performed at Driscoll Boat Works in San Diego as
a reality show is a no brainer to me. To those who boat - a boatyard is
their partner in a safer and more enjoyable boating experience. Driscoll is
a fine example of that partnership and has much to show new boaters and
experienced boaters alike."
"Boatyard, the Series" - is a project started more than 2 years ago by Mr.
James and with the blessing of Chuck and Tom Driscoll, the owners of
Driscoll Boat Works on Shelter Island, San Diego, California. The reason for
the long development time is the unique way the program is being produced.
The entire program is comprised of actions that occur naturally during a
normal work week - nothing is staged or "recreated". The 30 minute pilot was
created out of 9 hours of raw footage shot over a 2 year period. The pilot
program is a model of how the show will look when production begins sometime
in late 2010.
If all goes well, it is hoped the program will begin national air sometime
in the last half of 2011. Discussions with major cable networks and sponsors
has been underway for the last few months. Media consultant Peter Gordon, a
media executive with over twenty-five years experience leading programming
for domestic and international networks, is assisting in placing the show on
a national cable network.
“I
am glad everyone is enthusiastic about the show. It is a positive program
showing how teamwork, and an eye for safety, can help things get done for a
better boating experience,” said Mr. Gordon. “John’s team has developed an
entertaining and informative program that reminds me of ‘This Old House’ for
recreational boaters.” The weekly program will follow boat repair projects
at the Driscoll Boatyard and use these projects as a way to feature products
and services unique to recreational boating.
“I love boats and as a lover of boating, when I am not on the water, I am
looking for boating oriented television viewing - and those are few and far
between," said Mr. James. "There are plenty of “Fishing” and “Bass” oriented
shows that happen to have boats in the show - but no good shows about
boating and all the recreation entails. There is nothing to help me enjoy or
improve my boating experience by showing me better and safer ways to use my
boat for recreation. That’s what I hope “Boatyard - the Series” will do.”
Driscoll Boat Works is a third generation family owned and run company in
San Diego. They are a full service yacht repair facility on beautiful
Shelter Island. Driscoll has deep water facilities for vessels up to 65
meters in length and haul out capacity for vessels up to 150 tons. For more
